AS PONTIS, THE MOST ADVANCED OIL MILL IN EXTREMADURA AND ONE OF THE BEST IN SPAIN

Almazara As Pontisoil mill is a family company located in the little town of Elijas in Sierra de Gata (Cáceres) where the regions of Extremadura, Castilla y Leon and Portugal meet. This young but established company started its activity in November 2008 with the clear objective of producing an extra virgin olive oil of excellent quality, ensuring at the same time that all activities of production process respected the environment.

Dedicating to the production of its extra virgin olive oil brand, Vieiru, and offering to third party the crushing and bottling service, As Pontis has become in short time one of the most technologically advanced oil mills from Spain and of Extramadura.

The soul of As Pontis is Miguel Angel Carrasco whose philosophy is "a job well done is not tiring" ("U travallu bem feitu nun cansa " in the dialect of Elijas village). He is a curious young man who directs the mill where his brothers are working as well, taking care of everything: deciding purchases, managing staff, identifying the harvest time, and during the campaign, be also master of the mill.

Starting a project in time of crisis is not easy, however the effort, dedication and above all the genuine passion for olive oil, make this challenge come true and expand it all over the world, as one of the higher quality olive oils.

The peculiar characteristic of As Pontis extra virgin olive oil is that it is 100% single Manzanilla Cacereña olives, a native olive of Sierra de Gata (Designation of Origin Gata-Hurdes). Thanks to Vieiru, organic and traditional, the brothers have obtained in a short time several awards: 1st award as light fruity olive oil in the“XVII Concorso Internazionale Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva L'Orciolo d’Oro 2015”, Gold medal in the “XX Biol” competition, finalist in the Ecological category of the “Alimentos de España” competition of the Ministry of Agriculture, Gold Medal in the “Olive Japan International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition 2015”, three Gold Medals in the “New York International Olive Oil Competition” 2015 and 2014, three times the first award of the I and II “Concurso Nacional a la Calidad del Aceite de Oliva Virgen Extra FERCAM 2015”, Best AOVE of the “II Concurso Iberico Aceite Oliva Virgen Extra Mezquita” (Cordoba), Gold Medal in the “Cata Internacional de Aceites de Oliva Virgen Extra 2014”, Best Extra Virgin Olive of Extremadura in "Premios Extrema Selección" 2015, 2014 and 2013 ... totally 52 awards in the last three olive oil campaign.

As Pontishas obtained for two consecutive years the second place in the competition “The Best Olive Mill in Spain”. As Pontis owns one of the most modern structures disposed in an extremely clean yard to process the best olive juices without forgetting the Sierra de Gata olive growers that take care of the marvelous olive trees producing these excellent olives.

Another proof of the capacity for innovation and unconventionality of this company is an innovative refrigeration system that Pieralisi has specially installed, in the SPI 333 and SPI 77 centrifugal extractor to better control the temperature and preserve aromas and polyphenols.

Miguel carefully checks all the steps so that they can be reflected in the quality of his Extra Virgin Olive Oil. He tells us: "We use the two complete lines of Pieralisi machines for the first centrifugation only. The crushing is carried out within few hours from the olive harvest with double grid crushers. The process goes on with fully independent kneading modules Molinova which allow to differentiate the quality and characteristics of the extra virgin olive oils. The separation of the oil from the husk is realized by a two-phase decanter, which allows a reduced use of water while the separation of the oil from the water is carried out through vertical centrifugal separators Marte without using water ".

Pieralisi can recognize when a mill has a "soul" and this mill has a soul because all its staff care for the product and the machines make this liquid gold a perfect product impossible to be improved.
